Smith Scores Twice in Metro Police Win

IslandStats.com
The Met Police made hard work of this cup tie winning the game through two more Jonte Smith goals in a 3-0 win.

The game started well for the Met placing Berkhamsted on the back foot from the start.

After only 40 seconds of the game a ball beat the Berkhamsted defense leaving Smith through one on one with the goalkeeper, unbelievably Smith didn't score however it took a great save from Carl Tasker to keep this from happening.

By the time the 7th minute passed the Met Police had just taken their third corner where Sutherland should had done better when he was unmarked from 6 yards out, alas he headed wide.

Berkhamsted's impressive forward Connor Calcutt broke free down the right and delivered a dangerous ball across the Police 6 yard area but no other home player was near to steer the ball home.

Howard Newton immediately mirrored Calcutts cross down the other end but no Met player got on the end of the cross.

In the 15th minute a penalty was awarded following a foul from Jay Lovett. To make matters worse for the Police, Jamie Butler received a dead leg and a five minute injury break had Jim Cooper readying Dave Smalley to take over in goal. To their relief, Jamie Butler carried on and subsequently dived to his left to save the penalty. Butler couldn't last too long and was replaced in goal by Smalley.

In the 31st minute things looked even worst for the police, Steve Sutherland brought down Calcutt on the edge of the area, the referee quite rightly showed the red card to the Police captain. A tactical substitution saw Elliott Tyrell replacing Craig Bourne and the half closed at 0-0.

The second half was all one way traffic, not as you would expect of a ten man team against 11 but it was the Met who scored 3 without reply and could have scored more.

In the 52nd minute a great delivery from Ty Smith found Jay Lovett at the far post who headed across goal for Tyrrell to tap in. It was his first goal in over four years and his celebration left alot to be desired but this spurred the Police on again.

Craig Brown who was superb in the game found himself on the left flank and delivered a pin point cross for Smith to volley home from 8 yards.

In the 75th minute, Smith beat Berkhamsted's captain Dale Sears on the left, he cut inside shaping to shoot but was felled by Sears and a penalty was given. Smith stepped up himself and sent the goal keeper the wrong way to win the game for the Met.
