IslandStats.com
More athletes than ever before will be able to book their ticket to the Summer Olympics by competing at the Pan American Games next July in Lima, Peru.

The Peruvian capital has been working diligently to provide world-class facilities and a great sporting atmosphere for the best athletes from the 41 countries including Bermuda of Panam Sports, and that work has not gone unnoticed by the International Federations.

During the Panam Sports General Assembly on September 5th in Lima, which was attended by Bermuda Olympic Association President Judy Simons and Secretary General Stanley Douglas, the International Aquatics Federation (FINA) confirmed that Diving is another aquatics discipline at the Lima 2019 Pan Am Games that will send athletes to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

This confirmation increases the record-braking number of Olympic qualifiers on the competition schedule at Lima 2019 to 23. The full list now includes:

Athletics, Archery, Artistic Swimming, Badminton, Equestrian (Dressage, Eventing and Jumping), Diving, Field Hockey, Handball, Karate (Kata and Kumite), Modern Pentathlon, Sailing, Shooting, Skateboarding, Surfing, Swimming, Table Tennis, Tennis, Triathlon, Water Polo and Weightlifting.

This unprecedented number of Olympic qualifiers surpasses the 18 that were offered at the Toronto 2015 Pan American Games, ensuring that even more of the best athletes from the Americas will compete in Lima.

The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will be held from July 26th to August 11th, 2019, followed by the Parapan American Games from August 23rd to September 1st, 2019.
