 Roberts, Bart & Brangman IslandStats.com The Bermuda Golf Association's 36-hole Thanksgiving Challenge delivered a weekend of compelling action on the Hill at the Turtle Hill Club, with champions crowned across three divisions following tense battles over two rounds.
The Ladies (Gross) Division produced the tightest contest, with a three-way tie for the lead after the opening 18 holes. Linda Down, Ann Symonds, and Cynthia Semos all carded a first-round score of 12-over par 66. Down, however, found an extra gear in the final round to clinch the title with a combined total of 21-over par 129. Ann Symonds finished five strokes back in second place at 26-over par 134, while Elizabeth Carpio and Semos tied for third at 29-over par 137.
The Men's Blue (Gross) Division also came down to the wire. Johnny Bart ultimately secured the victory with a two-round total of 8-over par 116. Bart was in a deadlock after the first 18 holes, tied with Roger Brangman, with both men shooting 5-over par 59. In the end, Bart claimed the title by the narrowest of margins, as Brangman finished one stroke back in second place at 9-over par 117, while Stephen Roberts rounded out the top three at 13-over par 121.
Lewis MacFarlane was crowned the champion of the Men's White (Gross) Division after carding a total of 13-over par 131. MacFarlane carried a solid lead from the first 18 holes, having shot 7-over par 61. EJ Carreiro took second place with a score of 18-over par 126, and Christopher Morris finished third, scoring 29-over par 137.
The specialty prizes were spread across the field: Lewis MacFarlane won the Closest to Pin on Hole #1 (Rounds 1 & 2), Tony Cabral claimed Closest to Pin on Hole #17 (Men's White Division), Simon Benedek won Closest to Pin on Hole #9 (Ladies Division), and Sarah Dwyer took Closest to Pin on Hole #10
