Rafael Campos IslandStats.com The Butterfield Bermuda Championships exploded into life with a dramatic Third Round at Port Royal Golf Course. Andrew Novak and Rafael Campos stormed to the top of the leaderboard, firing sensational 62’s to set up a thrilling Sunday showdown.
Novak, who started his round with a scorching 29 on the front nine (tying the tournament record), was simply unstoppable. He drained nine Birdies without a single blemish on his scorecard. "I missed a lot of putts the first two rounds," Novak admitted. "But today, they were dropping. That first putt on 1 got me going, and I just kept rolling."
Campos matched Novak's brilliance with a Bogey-free masterpiece of his own, also carding nine Birdies. "My short game was on point today," a beaming Campos revealed. "I had a couple of chip-ins, and the putter was hot. That gave me a lot of confidence."
Justin Lower, who held the 36-hole lead, battled valiantly but a Bogey on the 18th hole dropped him one stroke back at 15-under. He had a dramatic escape on that final hole, his putt catching a gust of wind and somehow finding the bottom of the cup. "It was not a good putt," Lower confessed. "I got completely lucky. That could have been disastrous."
Adding to the excitement, Wesley Bryan tied the course and tournament record with a phenomenal 61, his round highlighted by two Eagles and six Birdies. He matched the tournament record for the low back nine with a 29, starting his round on the 10th tee.
With the final round looming, the tension is palpable. Will Novak or Campos seize the moment and claim victory, or will Lower mount a comeback charge? And can Bryan continue his red-hot form and make a run for the title? Sunday promises to be a captivating conclusion to the Butterfield Bermuda Championship!
