McDaniel College men's golf team has positioned themselves firmly in contention after the first round of The Melee at Ford's Colony Country Club, sitting in third place just eight strokes off the lead.
The team, which includes first-year talent Dylan Muso, posted a combined total of 297, putting them behind second-placed Bridgewater (Va.) and first-placed Christopher Newport.
Christopher Newport's Nick Alexander leads the individual standings, carding the only under-par score of the day with a 1-under 70.
McDaniel's challenge was spearheaded by senior Charlie Dolan, who shot an excellent 2-over par 73. Dolan's round, which featured three birdies and ten pars, puts him in a five-way tie for seventh place in the field of 60.
Young Bermudian Dylan Muso delivered a solid start to his tournament. Muso and sophomore Jack Manfre are currently tied for 12th place after both shooting a 3-over par 74. Muso's round included three birdies and nine pars.
The team score was rounded out by senior Sean Kelly, who finished the day with a 5-over par 76, placing him in a tie for 26th. Senior Ethan Crabb is currently in 47th after an opening round 81.
With Christopher Newport holding the lead, McDaniel College will be looking to close the gap in the next round of competition.
