The 2025 Goslings Bermuda Open teed off at the Port Royal Golf Course with a crisp breeze setting up a challenging but scoreable first round, resulting in a tie at the top of the leaderboard.
Two players carded impressive 4-under par 67s to share the overnight lead: Kenneth Leseur and James Walker.
Leseur, one of the local players qualified for the upcoming Butterfield Bermuda Championship, delivered a volatile but brilliant round that included an Eagle, five Birdies, ten Pars, one Bogey, and one Double Bogey. Walker's round was more consistent, featuring six Birdies, ten Pars, and just two Bogey’s.
Close behind the leaders, there is a three-way tie for third place at 3-under par 68. This group includes another Butterfield Bermuda Championship qualifier, Michael Sims, who finished his round with six Birdies, nine Pars, and three Bogey’s, tying with Peter Knade and Jay Card.
Rounding out the top six, Tyler Hull and Chaka DeSilva both shot 2-under par 69s to end the day tied for sixth.
The third local player qualified for the PGA Tour event, Oliver Betschart, finished his opening round at 1-over par, placing him tied for 16th heading into the second day.
