The Harness Pony Racing season resumed at the National Equestrian Center on Vesey Street, and fans were treated to a day of high-speed action and nail-biting finishes. Three races required the presiding judge to separate the winners, adding to the excitement and drama.
In Heat 8 of the 1:07&3 – 1:10&3 Time Bar Class, Candyce Martins guided Victoria's Secret to victory with a time of 1:10 flat. However, Kirista Rabain and Gold Rush crossed the finish line simultaneously, creating a photo finish that had everyone holding their breath. After careful review, Martins was declared the winner, leaving Rabain with a close second.
Heat 9 of the 1:04&1 – 1:06&1 Time Bar Class saw another photo finish unfold. Dylan DeSilva, driving Itsallaboutme, and Nisuje Landy, in the bike of Inwoods Progress, both clocked a time of 1:06&4. The judge once again had the final say, awarding the win to DeSilva in a heart-stopping decision.
The final race of the day, Heat 12 of the 1:04&0 & Faster Time Bar Class, provided a fitting climax to the thrilling afternoon. Teshi Zuill and SomeGoldSomeWhere crossed the finish line in 1:04 flat, but Candyce Martins, this time driving Smart Machine, matched that time exactly. To add to the drama, Phillip Correia and War Machine were just a fraction behind with a time of 1:04&1. After intense scrutiny, Zuill was declared the winner, with Martins settling for second and Correia taking a close third.
"It was an incredible day of racing," said the presiding judge. "The competition was fierce, and the photo finishes added to the excitement. Congratulations to all the winners and drivers for putting on such a fantastic show."
