Nicholas Jones emerged triumphant in the Bermuda Professional Golf Association (BPGA) Stroke Play Championship at Tucker's Point Golf Course, battling through high winds and showers to claim the title.
The two-day event saw seven of Bermuda's top professionals tackle the challenging par-70 course in demanding conditions. Chaka DeSilva held the first round lead after carding a 2-over par 72 in the first round, with Jones just one stroke behind.
However, Jones showcased his resilience and skill in the testing weather, posting a 4-over par 74 in the morning round and following it up with a 5-over par 75 in the afternoon. His consistent play across the 36 holes earned him a total score of 222 and secured him the championship title.
Dwayne Pearman Sr. made a strong charge with a 1-over par 71 in the morning round, but a challenging afternoon round of 9-over par 79 saw him finish in second place with a total of 224.
DeSilva and Quinton Sherlock Jr. shared a tie for third place, both finishing on 228. DeSilva carded rounds of 79 and 77, while Sherlock Jr. shot 81 and 75.
The BPGA also conducted a Class C Qualifier alongside the championship. Unfortunately, none of the participants managed to meet the qualifying standard, which was adjusted to 83 due to the challenging conditions. Mackih McGowan finished with a total of 177 (82 and 95), while Marcelos Thomas scored 178 (88 and 90).
Jones' victory in this challenging event highlights his ability to perform under pressure and adapt to difficult conditions. His consistent play throughout the two days earned him a well-deserved championship title.
