During the Senate the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport Owen Darrell announced several initiatives for the Department of Sport and Recreation.
During his speech Minister Darrell announced the Department of Sport and Recreation is pleased to announce the launch of the ACTIVE Kids Sports Academy, a transformative 12-week program designed to inspire and nurture the next generation of athletes. Focused on developing fundamental sports skills, the Academy combines fun, fitness, and teamwork in a safe and engaging environment.
Registration for the program opens December 1st and runs through December 20th, with limited spots available, so early sign-ups are encouraged.
The ACTIVE Kids Sports Academy offers two tailored programs based on age groups: Tiny Titans (ages 4-7) and Junior Jaguars (ages 8-10). Each group enjoys twice-weekly sessions led by expert coaches, with exposure to sports like gymnastics, swimming, archery, rugby, and more. Tiny Titans benefit from 45-60 minute sessions emphasizing balance, coordination, and fitness through structured, age-appropriate activities. Junior Jaguars participate in 60-minute sessions that rotate sports every three weeks, fostering core fitness, sportsmanship, and self-confidence.
“This Academy is more than just sports,” said Minister Darrell, “It’s a platform where children of all abilities can discover the joys of physical activity, develop leadership skills, and build lasting friendships. The team at the Department of Sport and Recreation will expose our young athletes to multiple sports, with the aim of enhancing their agility, coordination, and cognitive abilities while promoting teamwork and healthy competition.”
The program fee is $150, which includes expert coaching, high-quality equipment, and a supportive learning environment. With limited availability, families are encouraged to apply early.
