Today www.islandstats.com continues with the Spotlight on an athlete that will be vying for Medals at the Games. We bring you Track & Field’s Aaron Evans.

Name: Aaron Jabril Evans

Date of Birth: 01/31/1990

Q. What is something many people don't know about you?
A.
Most people don’t know that I’m a very picky eater.

Q. How did you first get involved in Track & Field and when did you realize that you wanted Compete Internationally?
A.
I first got involved in Primary School just competing for Warick Academy at interschool. I began to compete internationally for Bermuda in 2005 after watching Usain Bolt break the World Junior Record in the 200m in Devonshire, Bermuda in 2004, I realized that I wanted to run track rather than playing football.

Q. Did you have a particular Track & Field idol?
A.
I don’t have a track idol, but my favorite track and field athletes to watch compete would definitely have to be Usain Bolt because he’s so dominant in his event and, Mutaz Barshim (High Jumper), and Will Claye (Triple Jumper) because they both can jump out the gym.

Q. What would you describe as your strongest discipline?
A.
The 800m would definitely be my strongest event; I hardly ever challenge myself to run other distances.

Q. Which do you feel needs the most improvement?
A.
I need to improve my aerobic capacity by running some longer distance races like the mile.

Q. What one moment in your Sport to date are you most proud of?
A.
I’m most proud of my first NCAA Championship I ever competed in 2010 when I came 3rd as a sophomore. I was about to come 2nd and dove across the line because to beat the next competitor, scratching up my body in the process and ended up being edged out by another competitor. I had track burn all over my arm and back for a few weeks after that.

Q. What are your goals for the rest of 2014?
A.
To get a 100% healthy and get in some fast races after commonwealth games.

Q. Can you give an insight into an average week of training?
A.
In an average week of training I run up to 50 miles a week, as well as lifting weights and workouts on the track for speed.

Q. Is this your first Commonwealth Games?
A.
Yes this is my first Commonwealth Games and I can’t wait to take in the experience and really just enjoy competing and being a part of team Bermuda.

Q. What do you do when you're not taking part in Track and Field?
A.
I’m always running, there’s not a day when I don’t practice so when I’m not at the Track I’m usually home sleeping.
