Commonwealth Games Spotlight - Nick Kyme

A total of Eighteen (18) athletes will represent Bermuda at the XX Commonwealth Games being held in Glasgow, Scotland from July 23rd to August 3rd, 2014.

Today www.islandstats.com begins a Spotlight on an athlete that will be vying for Medals at the Games. We begin with Squash player Nick Kyme.

Name: Nick Kyme

Date of Birth: January 5, 1981

Q. What is something many people don’t know about you?
A.
I have never beaten any of my family at a game of squash.

Q. How did you first get involved in Squash?
A.
Both my parents played and introduced me at a very young age.

Q. Did you have a particular Squash idol?
A.
Jahangir Khan

Q. When did you realize that you wanted Compete Internationally?
A.
I have been completing internationally in squash since I was 11, so to be honest I’ve never really thought about it

Q. Which do you feel needs the most improvement?
A.
Backhand volley

Q. What one moment in your Sport to date are you most proud of?
A.
Bronze Medal at the CAC Games

Q. What are your goals for the rest of 2014?
A.
Qualify for the Pan Am Games next year

Q. Can you give an insight into an average week of training for you?
A.
I do some sort of training every day, but it varies on the day and how close to a competition. Currently in the last few weeks before the games I am trying to have as much match practice as possible; playing a game of squash virtually every day. On top of this I have continued my core strength regime and various running programs.

Q. Is this your first Commonwealth Games?
A.
This is my 5th Commonwealth Games

Q. If No list the other Commonwealth Games that you participated in?
A.
Malaysia 1998, Manchester 2002, Melbourne 2006, Delhi 2010

Q. What do you do when you’re not taking part in Squash?
A.
Most days if I’m not at work or training, I am running around after my two girls.
