The Bermuda Rugby Football Union (BRFU) paid respect by holding the Paul Marsden Memorial game between the Police and Mariners at the National Sports Center.

BRFU President Sean Field-Lament said to the players, “Today marks the 11th game since Paul passed away sadly all those years ago.

It's gone by very quickly but it's been a very difficult 11 years without him, and by playing in this game today, you help us keep Paul's memory alive and that is the most important thing to us as a family.”

In the 11th Annual Paul Marsden memorial game - an emotional Police team sporting pink socks for SADS/Cancer awareness took on a short handed Mariners team fielding some guest players.

After a minute of silence the game kicked off under increasingly darker skies.

Police got on the board early, after an exchange between Stephan Smit and Darren Richardson saw the ball in the hands of Dan Cole reached across from close, but the Conversion was missed leaving the score a 5-0.

Mariners responded from the kickoff when they scored a text book Try by national team prop Dustan Archibold, their Conversion was missed as well leaving the score at 5 - 5.

Police charged back and some good continuity play saw them work deep into an attacking position with Smit breaking through and scored between the posts, Michael Kane kicked the Conversion making it 12-5.

Police would extend their lead to 19 - 5 when Police captain Tommy Edwards clearing kick swirled in the wind and the ball cruelly bounce off a Mariners player shoulder into the grateful hands of Smit who galloped in from 70 meters out, Kane Converted.

Police would score again with winger Guerhardt Lamprecht going over and Kane's kicked a difficult Conversion making it 26 - 5.

Smit scored his third Try of the half, but Kane missed the Conversion but Police were firmly in control leading 31 - 5. Minutes later it would be 38 - 5 as a move was clinically finished by outside center Mike Henebrey, Kane added the Conversion.

Minutes before the halftime break Richardson went over for a Try and Kane connected with a Conversion making the score 45 - 5 at the half.

A strong run by Mariners guest player Rory Boyce saw the chiseled winger round some very uninspired defense to score between the posts, the Conversion was blocked leaving the score at 45 - 10.

A decisive run by Tommy Edwards added to the Police score line and with Kane Converting it then made the score line 52 - 10.

Adam Rossides would get in on the Police scoring act when he went over for a Try, with Kane Converting to take score to 59 - 10.

The bonus point win kept Polices very faint hopes of catching League Leaders Renegades alive.

Earlier in the day undefeated Renegades defeated a spirited Teachers side fielding some veterans due to injuries 47 - 14.

Renegade got 3 Try’s from Jamie Baum, 2 Try’s from Paul Kelly, and Dave Wheatley, with Simon Pettler adding another, Brain Archibald kicked one Conversion, while Paul Kelly kicked a Conversion and a Penalty.

Teachers got Try’s from David McHugh and Antoinio Perinchief, with 2 Conversions by Conor McGowan.
