Over 100 local and visiting crew of pilot gig rowers will take to the waters of Bermuda for three days of racing on October 20th, 23rd, and 26th in the fourth international pilot gig regatta hosted by the Bermuda Pilot Gig Club (BPGC).

All racing events are free for spectators - catch the action by land or sea and cheer on our rowers who will be powering through the waves in traditional rowing boats rooted in Bermuda’s maritime history.

This event has been made possible by our event sponsors: Bermuda Tourism Authority, Axis, Chubb, Paragon Brokers, Sticks and Stones, Bermuda Sports Lab, and Butterfield & Vallis, with added support from Belco.

Event Schedule:

The Mangrove Bay Challenge will see 6 male crews & 10 female crews battling it out on the water off of Kings’ Point. Spectate from the Sandys Boat Club facility or bring your boat out to follow the races on the water.

● Wednesday, October 23rd - Co-ed Racing, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm, at Spanish Point Boat Club (SPBC), Pembroke.

The Spanish Point Mixer will see co-ed crews of local and visiting rowers matched up for some friendly racing from 1:00pm - 5:00pm in the Great Sound. Spectate from the Spanish Point Boat Club facility.

● Saturday, October 26th - Men’s & Ladies’ Racing, 9:00am – 4:30pm, at East End Mini Yacht Club (EEMYC), St. George’s.

In the regatta finale the all-male & all-female crews return to race intending to leave the competition in their wake in St. George’s Harbour. Excellent viewing of the finish line from the East End Mini Yacht Club or bring your boat out to follow the races on the water.

The BPGC is excited to welcome back many returning rowers and encourages Bermuda to watch the action by land or sea at all of the venues and cheer on the Island’s pilot gig rowers.

BPGC has 9 pilot gig boats on the island, 150 members and regular rowing taking place at East, Central, and West locations since the club formed almost 10 years ago. Gig rowing has deep roots in Bermuda’s maritime history and culture - it is a wonderful way to enjoy our natural beauty while getting fit and participating in a tradition that has found new life in a sporting and social environment.
