Reebok has led the charge of brands and athletes cutting ties with fitness firm CrossFit (CF), after founder and CEO Greg Glassman controversially tweeted “It’s Floyd-19” in response to a tweet about racism being a public health issue.
CrossFit Bermuda issued a statement, “The last few months of having the gym doors closed has been a struggle for us all. During these times we have tried to adapt & continue our passion of offering challenging workouts to our community. For the past week we have watched much of the world come together in support of #blacklivesmatter. Today we witnessed our country unite for this cause and it makes me so proud to be Bermudian.
The CrossFit community on this island has been our family for over 8 years. Our community is better than the insensitive and ignorant words of Crossfit Founder and CEO, Greg Glassman. Now more than ever we are in need of strong leadership and we feel that CrossFit HQ is not sending a message that is in line with our values, principles or beliefs. We are therefore considering our future as a CF Affiliate and looking into the rebranding of our product.
For you, our valued community, we will continue to foster an inclusive and positive environment, supporting all of our athlete's fitness goals no matter their ability, background, race, gender or religious beliefs.
We will continue to move forward together!
