Young Bermudian Golfers Show Grit at Invitational

Sa-Qui Robinson

Bermuda’s next generation of golfers delivered highly encouraging performances at the prestigious 19th annual Mid Season Invitational Hurricane Junior Golf Tournament in Orlando, Florida.

Competing at the demanding Reunion Resort against an elite international field of seasoned tournament regulars, the young island contingent held their own—an especially impressive feat given that several were making their competitive debuts on overseas soil.

The final day of play was severely disrupted by typical Florida thunderstorms, forcing tournament organizers to cut the remaining rounds down to a lightning-shortened nine holes for the younger age brackets.

The standout round of the weekend came from 17-year-old Sa-Qui Robinson in the hyper-competitive Boys’ 16-18 division.

Robinson carded a magnificent two-over-par 74 in his final 18 holes, a resilient round highlighted by a sensational eagle, 13 rock-solid pars, and just four bogeys. His final round surge pushed him into a respectable tie for 38th place overall at 17-over-par.

In the younger age divisions, Bermuda's junior players adapted remarkably well to the wet conditions and stop-start scheduling post-thunderstorm:

Boys' 14-15: Cole Graham (15) navigated his final nine holes at seven-over-par to finish the tournament in 29th place at 33-over. Right behind him, Lachlan Soutter (15) carded a steady six-over-par on his weather-shortened loop to claim 31st place at 43-over.

Boys' 12-13: Austin Frank (13) ground out an admirable 14th-place finish. He shot a seven-over-par on his final nine holes to conclude a valuable developmental week at 27-over.

Boys' 10-11: The youngest member of the traveling group, 10-year-old Bradford Laing, enjoyed a stellar tournament, finishing an outstanding fourth overall. Laing carded a mature four-over-par over his storm-cut final nine holes to finish just 16-over par for the championship.

The experience at an elite global event like the Hurricane Invitational provides a vital stepping stone for Bermuda's emerging golfing talent as they transition their games to the international stage.
