Bermuda Police Service 4 HMS Trent 1
The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) hosted the crew of the HMS Trent at the Police Field, delivering a disciplined performance on a rain-slicked pitch to secure a victory against the visiting Royal Navy side.
The HMS Trent, a Batch 2 River-class offshore patrol vessel currently docked alongside Front Street, is more commonly seen conducting counter-piracy and anti-smuggling operations. However, the crew traded their maritime duties for a football kit to test their tactical development against the local service.
The match commenced in challenging, wet conditions, but the weather did little to dampen the BPS offensive. The Police side seized control of the first half, jumping out to a 2-0 advantage thanks to two clinical finishes from Zachary Edmund.
Edmund’s back-to-back goals provided a solid foundation for the hosts, who maintained their defensive shape to take the two-goal cushion into the half-time interval.
The BPS showed no signs of complacency as the second half got underway. Jonathan Wood soon extended the lead to 3-0, effectively putting the match out of reach.
The Royal Navy side refused to surrender, however, and managed to find the net to pull the score back to 3-1. Despite the momentum shift, the Police Service responded with efficiency. Chris Thompson found the final decisive strike, restoring the three-goal advantage and ensuring the "Police Field" remained a fortress.
The fixture marks another chapter in the long-standing tradition of friendly competition between local services and visiting naval personnel during their stay in Hamilton.
