Bermuda Triangle Collegiate Underway @ Port Royal

Ailsa Brannock
IslandStats.com
Stetson University has seized control of the Bermuda Triangle Collegiate after a grueling opening day at Port Royal, where the Atlantic elements pushed a field of 11 schools to their absolute limits.

The iconic Southampton course lived up to its formidable reputation on Monday, with relentless coastal gusts demanding pinpoint accuracy across 36 holes of championship golf. While many struggled to find their rhythm in the deteriorating conditions, Stetson emerged as the class of the field, navigating the wind with a composure that has left their rivals playing catch-up.

Ailsa Brannock holds the individual clubhouse lead following a masterclass in consistency. The Stetson standout carded back-to-back rounds of 73 to finish the day at four-over par—a remarkable scorecard considering the strength of the breeze.

She is closely shadowed by Wofford’s Bella Kent, who sits just one stroke back in second place. Kent displayed significant resilience after an opening 75, returning to the course in the afternoon to fire a brilliant one-over par 72, the low round of the day. Sophia Bardunias of Bucknell rounds out the podium places at six-over par after mirroring the leader’s stability with consecutive rounds of 74.

The team standings reflect Stetson’s dominance; their collective score of eight-over par has carved out an eight-shot cushion over second-placed Wofford. The University of Albany remains in the hunt in third, though they trail the leaders by ten strokes as the tournament moves into its final stages.

For the local galleries, attention remains firmly fixed on Bermudian talent Sienna Mosquera. Competing for Lehigh University, Mosquera sits in a tie for 29th on the individual leaderboard at 19-over par. Her efforts have helped the Mountain Hawks into sixth place in the team standings, as they battle to climb the rankings in a field separated by fine margins.

As the golfers prepare for the final round, all eyes will be on whether the chasing pack can make significant inroads on a Stetson side that appears perfectly at home in the challenging Bermuda winds.
