Bermuda Contingent Compete in Barbados Extravaganza

IslandStats.com
Bermudian golf was well represented in the Caribbean this week as four of the island’s leading female golfers took to the fairways for the Fordes Golf International Women’s Day Golf Extravaganza 2026. Ann Symonds, Tracy Burgess, Morgan Lightbourne, and Rhonda Hassell travelled to Barbados to compete in the high-profile two-day event, which featured a diverse field of talent from across the region.

The tournament opened with a competitive two ball better ball format on the first day of play. Host nation Barbados dominated the individual accolades as Mariella Young secured the nearest the pin prize while Simone Harris took the honours for the longest drive. The podium for the opening day was led by Jina Scheper and Carol Jean Marie of Barbados who claimed first place. They were followed closely by fellow Barbadians Mariella Young and Mya Gibson in second, with the Bahamian duo of Miranda Tucker and Jenna Bayles rounding out the top three.

The second day of action shifted to a four ball Texas scramble format where Bermuda made its mark on the leaderboards. Tracy Burgess delivered a standout moment for the visiting contingent by winning the nearest the pin award, showcasing the precision that has made her a regular fixture in Bermudian golf. The longest drive of the day was claimed by Nefertari Alleyne of Barbados.

In the team standings for the final day, the Williams Metals Reigning Juniors successfully defended their title to win the event for the second consecutive year. The team, consisting of Mariella Young, Nefertari Alleyne, Kiara Wilson, and Mya Gibson, proved too strong for the chasing pack. The Bahamas Hibiscus Sistas took the runner-up spot, while the Barbadian quartet known as Chaotic Company finished in third place.

The tournament continues to serve as a vital platform for female golfers in the region to compete at a high level while celebrating the international growth of the sport. For the Bermudian quartet, the experience provides further competitive momentum as they look ahead to the domestic season back home.
