Dill Clinches TKO Victory at Wolkernite Fight Championships

Bermudian mixed martial artist AJ Dill has made a statement in his welterweight debut, securing a ruthless first-round stoppage against Kirby at the Wolkernite Fight Championships in the United Kingdom.

Stepping into the octagon at 77kg for the first time, Dill showcased a significant evolution in his tactical approach to dismantle an opponent with a solid professional pedigree. The victory moves Dill's record to four wins and two losses in kickboxing, alongside a professional boxing record of one win and one draw.

The move to the 77kg welterweight division presented a fresh set of challenges for Dill, who typically competes at a higher weight class. "My main concerns were matching the speed of the guys at that weight," Dill admitted following the bout. Facing an opponent with a respectable record of three wins and one loss, the Bermudian knew he could not rely solely on power.

The tactical breakthrough came from Dill’s pre-fight analysis. Having identified Kirby as a mobile fighter who relied on movement to dictate the pace, Dill’s game plan was centered on neutralising that agility. "I figured if I took his movement away and made him trade punches—stand there and fight rather than moving around—then I would have the advantage," Dill explained.

The plan worked to perfection. From the opening exchange, Dill focused on his opponent’s legs, a strategy he noted "worked a treat" in grounding the elusive Kirby. With the movement stifled, Dill was able to let his superior boxing and striking take over, demonstrating a sharp increase in hand speed and decision-making.

The end came just ninety seconds into the first round. Dill caught Kirby with a clinical combination, landing a left hook followed by a heavy right to the top of the head that sent the Englishman to the canvas. Although Kirby attempted to regain his footing, the referee was forced to intervene as his legs had clearly failed him.

The victory maintains Dill’s remarkable finishing rate, with all four of his wins now coming via knockout or technical knockout (TKO) within the first two rounds.

"Trailing by 20—or fighting at a new weight—is a test of character," Dill reflected. "But we have a no-quit attitude. I’m comfortable at welterweight now and the goal is to stay active. I’m hoping for a title fight soon, and then hopefully, I can move up into the semi-pro ranks and start competing there as well".
