Bermuda’s Golden Girls Shine in Year-End Regional Rankings

IslandStats.com
As the curtain falls on a spectacular 2025 athletics season, the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) has released its final Female Outdoor Regional Rankings.

The update confirms a historic year for Bermudian and Bermuda-resident athletes, with several stars securing prestigious spots among the region’s elite following a string of record-breaking performances.

Leading the charge in the sprint disciplines is Caitlyn Bobb, whose sensational form in the women’s 400 metres has earned her the 18th position in the NACAC region.

Bobb clocked a blistering Bermuda national record of 51.11 seconds at the ACC Championships in North Carolina on May 17th, establishing herself as a formidable force on the collegiate and international stage.

In the middle-distance events, Shayla Cann secured 24th in the 800-metre rankings after a personal best performance of 2:07.89 in Greensboro on May 15th.

Meanwhile, veteran distance runner Gayle Lindsay made her presence felt in the long-distance categories following a successful Island Games campaign in July, where she earned the 27th regional spot in the 10,000 metres with a time of 38:28.29 and 28th in the half marathon with a mark of 1:25:22.

The field events proved equally fruitful for the island, headlined by a standout season for high jumper Sakari Famous.

Famous leaped to 11th in the regional standings after clearing a Bermuda national record height of 1.85 metres at the Horned Frog Invitational in Texas on May 3rd.

In the throwing circles, Tiara DeRosa broke new ground by becoming the 21st-ranked discus thrower in the region, smashing the national record with a toss of 50.07 metres at the National Sports Centre on June 21st.

Completing the impressive regional showing is Warwick Academy student Tatiana Sousa, who holds the 6th spot in the under-17 javelin rankings after a powerful throw of 42.92 metres also achieved at the National Sports Centre in June.

This collective success highlights a golden era for female athletics in Bermuda as the focus now shifts toward the 2026 international calendar.
