Dage Minors, recently elected as the Vice President of the Bermuda National Athletics Association (BNAA), has spoken about his commitment to an athlete-centred approach and his excitement for the challenges ahead as the new executive committee looks to grow and revive the sport.
Minors expressed his enthusiasm for his new role on the BNAA committee: "I’m just, you know, a bit humbled to be on the committee and, you know, looking forward to the journey, the challenges, the good and the bad."
He emphasised that his primary goal is to bring a fresh perspective and ensure the needs of the athletes are always prioritised: "In terms of what I’m looking to bring, I mean, it’s just another viewpoint, another opinion. It's definitely a good team... everyone's, you know, going in the same direction."
Minors highlighted his intention to champion the voice of the competitors within the administration: "I guess [I want to] bring that athlete-centred approach, and making sure that... the athlete is always put first." He added that he has full confidence in the new executive team to maintain this focus: "I have no doubt that, you know, President Vickers and the rest of the team will also do that."
Minors stressed that the committee is focused on long-term, sustainable growth, acknowledging that change is a gradual process. "I’m just looking forward to it and hoping to, you know, keep the sport going where it needs to be and and kind of revive it in some areas and continue where it's good at."
He concluded by stressing realism and a unified mission: "I think it's you can’t fix it all and I don’t look to fix it all and I don’t think anyone on the board is looking to fix it all, but yeah, we’re definitely looking, looking to make some changes and and continue to grow the sport."
