Australia were pushed to the limit, having to overcome a 14-point deficit early in the second period. A remarkable comeback, engineered by forward Xavier Cooks, turned the tide and set up a nail-biting finish.
Australia had cruised through their earlier games, with comfortable wins over the Philippines and the Islamic Republic of Iran, but the final proved to be a far sterner test.
