Pacers to compete at the Russell E. Blunt Eastcoast Invitational

Fresh off an outstanding performance at last weekend’s Flying Angels Track and Field Championships, the Bermuda Pacers Track Club will again continue to promote their track club overseas as they compete in the 2025 Russell E. Blunt Eastcoast Invitational Track Meet at Durham Memorial Stadium, in North Caroline.

This is a three-day event that attracts about 1000 athletes from the US and Canada. This will mark the club’s 43rd appearance at this prestigious track meet.

This year’s team will be led by distance runners Tobiah Goodchild and Gianluca Bortoli, both young boys will compete in the 15-16 Boys’ Division. Goodchild will compete in the 800 and 1500 metres, while Bortoli will compete in the 1500 and 3000 metres.

Older sister Carina Bortoli will lead the female members of the team along with 14-year-old Zakhya Scott the senior female sprinter on the team. Bortoli will compete in the 17-18 Girls’ Division in the 1500 and 3000 metres. While Scott will compete in the 100, 200 metres and a 4x400 metre relay in the 13-14 Girls’ Division. This will be the Bortoli’s first appearance at the Russell E. Blunt Eastcoast Invitational track meet.

The next group of athletes to compete will be the 13-14 Girls’ and Boys’ Divisions. The 13-14 Girls team consists of medalists from last year, Riana Robinson, who will compete in the 800, 1500 and 3000 metres. Amaya Davis will compete in the 100 metres, Long and Triple Jump, Sukanya Jobson will compete in the 400 and 800 metres and Long Jump. The final member of the 13-14 Girls’ team is Elena Bortoli who will compete in the 800, 1500 and 3000 metres. These same group of young girls will compete in the 4 x 400 metre Relay.

The 13- 14 Boys’ Division will consist of two athletes Timothy Pearman and Ronan Davidge, both distance runners. Pearman will compete in the 400, 800 and 1500 metres, with Davidge competing in the 1500 and 3000 metres. Both young runners performed very well during the Flying Angels track meet last weekend.

In the 11-12 Boys age group, the club will have Ajani Trott, Jadon Lightbourne and Jemani Scott. These young boys will be making their debut appearance at the meet and will compete in the 100, 200, 400, 800 metres and long jump respectively. Lightbourne set a meet record in the 100 metres at Flying Angels event and plans to make a repeat performance.

In the 11-12 Girls Age Group the club will have Ava St. Luce compete in the 100 and 200 metres and Naomi MacGuinness making her first appearance for the club will compete in the 800, 1500 and 3000 metre events. MacGuinness, who is well known for her distance running abilities, will be looking to continue her dominance in these events.

In the 9 and 10 Girls Division, the club will have lone athlete Giselle Reid Rubaine. Giselle, also a medalist at last year’s event, will compete in the 100, 200 metres and the Long Jump.

The two youngest members of the team are Raelyn Robinson and Elliott Davidge. Both athletes captured Gold Medals at the Flying Angels Championships last weekend and are planning to do the same thing at this meet.

Robinson will compete in the 8 and under girls 100, 200 metres and Long Jump. Davidge will compete in the same age group with the Boys. He will compete in the 400, 800 and 1500 metres.

Despite the team being much smaller in numbers, the coaches travelling with the team are expecting great performances from all the athletes.
