The Bermuda Basketball Association hosted the "Hooping in Paradise" Youth Basketball Showcase, bringing together local talent and the visiting Radiant Sun AAU Basketball team from New Jersey inside the Berkeley Institute Gymnasium for a weekend of competitive action.
In the opening match, the Bermuda Under 17 Select team demonstrated their prowess, defeating the Under 17 Development team 59-28. Ralph Scott, who was recently named MVP at the FIBA Basketball Without Borders Americas camp, led the U17 Select with an impressive 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Clarke Johnson contributed 12 points for the U17 Development squad.
The Bermuda Under 19 Select team then took to the court, securing a solid 65-48 victory over the visiting Radiant Sun team. DeNash Davis was instrumental for the Under 19 Select, leading all scorers with 19 points, while Jonah Simmons added 14 points. Jaden Foster was the top scorer for Radiant Sun with 14 points.
The showcase also featured a Girls match, where Pink Sand dominated Blue Ocean with a commanding 39-8 win. T'mia Williams, a known talent in Bermudian girls' basketball, put on a superb individual display, scoring 22 points alone for Pink Sand. Belle Burns, Jorgia White, and Nh'lae Deroza each scored 2 points for Blue Ocean.
In a later game, the Under 17 Select team again proved their strength, defeating the Radiant Suns in a closer contest, 48-42. Ralph Scott once more led the Under 17 Select with 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists, matching Jaden Perez's 13 points for Radiant Suns.
The "Hooping in Paradise" showcase provided invaluable experience for Bermuda's rising basketball stars, allowing them to test their skills against international competition and further develop their game.
