IslandStats.com
Saltus Grammar School delivered a commanding performance to cruise to victory at the 2025 Middle School Track and Field Championships, held at the National Sports Center.

Saltus accumulated an impressive 607.5 points, successfully defending their overall title in emphatic fashion. The Whitney Institute finished a distant second with 516 points, while Sandys Secondary Middle School claimed third place with 414 points.

The dominance extended to the divisional titles, with Saltus narrowly edging out Bermuda High School (BHS) to secure the Girls' Overall Division Crown. The Whitney Institute, however, comfortably won the boys' overall division, with Saltus claiming the second spot.

Individual brilliance was also on display throughout the championships. Ava St. Luce of Saltus Grammar was crowned the Under-12 Girls Champion, amassing 28 points. She secured victories in the 100 meters and Long Jump, while finishing second in the 200 meters to Cush Belboda from Purvis Primary.

Ajani Trott, also from Saltus Grammar, was equally impressive, breaking the 400-meter record en route to winning the Under-12 Boys' title with a time of 1:10.60. Trott also secured second place in the 100 and 200 meters, behind his schoolmate Jadon Lightbourne. Naomi MacGuinness continued her record-breaking form, following up her 800-meter record from last week by shattering the 1500-meter record with a remarkable time of 5:02.32, eclipsing Flora Duffy’s previous mark by a significant 11 seconds.

The Saltus success continued in the Under-13 Girls' Division, with Sukanya Jobson being named champion after claiming Gold Medals in the 400, 800, and 1500-meter races. Her teammate Leydi Raynor ensured a clean sweep for Saltus in the Under-13 Girls' track events, winning both the 100 and 200 meters. Jobson and Raynor then teamed up with Zahra Goodchild and Amaya Davis to break the under-13 girls' 4x100 meter relay record with a time of 52.73 seconds.

Adaj O’Brien of the Whitney Institute was a force to be reckoned with in the Under-13 Boys' Division, winning the overall title after securing victories in the 100 and 200 meters, as well as the shot put. His Whitney Institute teammate, Hasim Ming, also claimed double gold in the 400 and 800 meters.

Recent CARIFTA Games participant Amaya Samuels of BHS blazed her way to victory in the Over-13 Girls' Division, cruising to wins in the 100 and 200 meters and also winning the shot put. In the Over-13 Boys' Division, Whitney’s Timothy Pearman was unstoppable on the track, claiming Gold in the 400, 800, and 1500 meters. Saltus jumper Chaz Edmead finished second in this Division, winning the triple and high jump but finishing third in the long jump. Sandys Secondary’s Riley Martin showcased his sprinting prowess by winning the 100 and 200-meter sprint double.

The 2025 Middle School Track and Field Championships showcased a wealth of talent across Bermuda's schools, with Saltus Grammar School emerging as the dominant force. The individual records broken and the impressive performances across all age groups point to a bright future for track and field on the island.
