The Annual Police Rugby Duckett Memorial matches will take place on January 11th 2025 at the Police Recreational Club in Prospect.
Both Men’s and Ladies’ Police Rugby teams will compete against the best of the rest of the Island’s rugby community.
The annual games are played in memory of George Duckett, a former Commissioner of Police who was assassinated in 1972.
Mr. Duckett was a popular, larger than life Commissioner who had a commanding presence and was well known as an ardent rugby fan. In 1973, the Bermuda Police Rugby Section (BPRFC) commenced an annual game in his honour which remains the longest running memorial game in Bermuda.
As is tradition, the BPRFC Men’s 1st XV will play the BRFU Presidents XV, whilst the BPRFC Ladies first team will also play a select side from the other Ladies’ teams.
“Saturday is a huge day for the Police Rugby club. This year marks the 50th Duckett Memorial event and is always well supported. The Duckett Memorial provides a fantastic opportunity for Bermuda’s rugby community to get together and celebrate our sport. We look forward to welcoming everyone again this year” Adam Richards, Chairman of the Police Rugby Club said.
First team club captain for the Men, Darren Richardson, added “The Club are looking forward to another hard-fought competitive day for both the men’s and the women’s teams as we take on strong select teams. Historically, the Police club has achieved good results against the odds in these fixtures and we hope to continue that trend this year.”
The Police Club invites serving Officers, former colleagues and rugby fans to attend and continue to show their respect by supporting this long standing sporting tradition.
Refreshments will be available pitch side and up at the PRC afterwards. The schedule of games is as follows:
Women's BPRFC 1st Team vs The Rest 2pm Kick-off, 3 x 10 minute periods
Men’s BPRFC First XV vs BRFU President’s XV 3pm Kick-off, 3 x 20 minute periods
