The Bermuda Bicycle Association (BBA) is launching an exciting new initiative for young cyclists aged 13-18. The Youth and Junior Road Cycling Programme, starting this January, aims to foster a love of cycling while developing skills, fitness, and confidence in Bermuda's next generation of riders.
The year-round programme offers a structured and supportive environment for young cyclists to thrive. Participants will benefit from expert coaching, safety workshops, group rides, and opportunities to compete both locally and internationally.
Why Cycling?
The BBA emphasizes the holistic benefits of cycling for young people. Beyond physical fitness, cycling promotes mental well-being, builds confidence, and enhances focus.
"Cycling isn't just a sport—it's a gateway to personal growth and well-being," the BBA states. "Participants in the programme will benefit from increased confidence, improved focus, and holistic health."
Programme Details
The programme is tailored to different age groups: Ages 13-14: Focus on group road riding and skill development. Ages 15-18: Advanced training for competitive cyclists.
Information Session
An information session for interested athletes and parents will be held on Sunday, January 5th at 4:00 PM at the Prospect Police Club. Attendees can meet the coaches, hear from current participants, and learn more about the programme's benefits.
A Junior Cyclist's Perspective
Charlotte Millington, one of the BBA's leading junior riders, shared her positive experience with the programme: "I met my best friend in this programme and the best community I could ask for. The junior team is so supportive, and the coaches are always there to help. Cycling has given me confidence, friendships, and the drive to achieve my goals."
The BBA encourages everyone to spread the word about this fantastic opportunity for Bermuda's youth. With its focus on personal development, teamwork, and the thrill of road cycling, the Youth and Junior Road Cycling Programme is poised to make a positive impact on the lives of young people across the island.
