The Brock Badgers Men's Basketball team commenced their season with a convincing 64-47 victory over the Guelph Gryphons at Bob Davis Gymnasium.
Malachi Scott contributed 2 points, shooting a perfect 1-for-1 from the field in seven minutes of play off the bench. Newcomer Nathan Charles made a significant impact in his debut, leading the Badgers with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Davanté Hackett facilitated the offense effectively, recording a game-high 4 assists.
Brock established a strong offensive rhythm in the first quarter, culminating in a three-pointer by Jordan Nelson to give the Badgers a 27-10 lead. Guelph responded with improved play in the second quarter, but a late layup by Xavier Fearon ensured Brock maintained a 37-23 advantage at halftime.
A dominant third-quarter performance further solidified Brock's control of the game, with Georges Mfwamba Ngandu contributing a free throw and a three-pointer to extend the lead to 57-34. Despite a late surge by Guelph in the fourth quarter, Brock held firm to secure a 17-point victory.
Brock demonstrated superior efficiency on the offensive end, shooting 34.4% from the field compared to Guelph's 29.8%. The Badgers also held the advantage in three-point shooting, connecting on four attempts while Guelph managed only one.
