Arnold on the Podium IslandStats.com Day Two of the Caribbean Road Cycling Championships saw the Bermuda riders put up an impressive fight in the Road Race under intense heat.
In the Elite Men’s Road Race, the team executed a solid plan, with Tyler Smith providing critical support. Kaden Hopkins made a promising break for the podium, but after he dropped out, Conor White’s group rallied hard.
Only 15 out of 74 riders managed to finish the grueling 9-lap, 155 km course, with White doing much of the work and securing a commendable 6th place overall with a time of 3:46:08. Corey Williams from Belize who is a renowned sprinter took a well-deserved victory one second ahead of White.
In the Women’s Road Race, the course was shortened to 4 laps covering 85km, setting up a sprint finish where Gabriella Arnold placed 5th overall and 2nd in the Elite Women’s Category just 7 seconds behind the winner Llori, Sharpe of Jamaica.
Arnold was clocked at 2:07:14, the Medal for Arnold saw her pick up 2 Silver Medals over the two days.
Fat-Tire-Massive Bermuda Mountain Bike
The 2024/25 Fat-Tire-Massive Bermuda Mountain Bike Series got underway with the South Shore Beach Trails.
National Mountain Bike Champion Robin Horsfield won the Open 60 Minutes Male race clocking a 11 lap winning time of 1:02:35, Jackson Langley was second after 10 laps with a time of 1:00:16, and Dominique Mayho finished third with a 10 lap time of 1:05:13.
Charlotte Millington won the Open 60 Minutes Female Division race clocking a 8 lap time of 1:04:50, Jennifer Wilson also completed 8 laps to finish second with a time of 1:08:39, and Skye Ferguson finished third with a 7-lap time of 1:04:36.
In the Open 30 Minutes Male race Maceo Dill clocked a 4 lap winning time of 31:51, Sherman Darrell was second also completing 4 laps with a time of 32:22, and Kareem Johnson finished third stopping the clock in a time of 32:59.
Zina Jones won the Open 30 Minutes Female race which saw her cover three laps in a time of 30:01.
William Coatesworth road to victory in the Novice 30 Minutes Male race clocking a 4 lap time of 34:46, David Brown was second in 34:48, and Alexander Roque finished third with a time of 43:16. Sonja Seng won the Novice 30 Minutes Female race with a time of 38:23, Arlene MacGuinness was second in 40:43, and Philippa Mello finished third with a time of 30:50.
