Pansy Olander posted her experience of the Green Mountain Stage Races in Vermont.
As you would have seen on www.islandstats.com each days coverage, Olander, Daniel Ringer, and Liana De Medeiros, all competed in the event.
Day 1: Nothing like a Time Trial up a mountain to flush the legs out after a full day of travel.
This was not my main focus of the race so I just did my best and rode my hardest. I was actually pretty pleased with how I did, on a personal level. Achieving probably one of the best TTs I’ve done so far.
Day 2: I have never been in a peloton this big. 72 women and then you add pouring rain and high speed racing. I had absolutely no idea how this race was going to go but there were sprint points to try and go for so, I focused on that. It was a massive learning curve and a hell of an experience.
Can’t say I had much in my legs for a proper sprint but I figured that getting out in front at the end was key for a good result.
Day 3: All I have to say is…holy mother of mountains
Going into this day, I already knew what I was up against and my only job was to make it over that last climb. Especially now, looking back at the race, I rode this race soooo well. Proud of my efforts even though at the time I was freaking out.
It’s crazy to think that even though there were moments of pain and suffering, I now want to do another.
