Portland State had a big second half, which included a game-closing 28-15 run, on the way to a 58-51 victory over David Patrick’s Sacramento State at Viking Pavilion.
Sacramento State led for 23 minutes of the game clock, most of that in the first half. Portland State, however, outscored Sacramento State in the second half by a 34-22 margin and was the aggressor on the glass. Sacramento State, who entered the game as the 18th-best rebounding team in the nation, saw Portland State grab 13 offensive rebounds in the second half and convert those into 15 second-chance points.
Usually, it’s Sacramento State that dominates the glass and the second chance point department, but the Vikings were able to score 15 of their 34 second-half points off extra opportunities.
Portland State took the lead for good on a Jorell Saterfield jumper (40-38) with 10:09 remaining and extended their lead to as many as 10 points before settling for the seven-point victory.
