David Patrick’s Sacramento State used a 12-0 run late in the second half to draw within five points of Nevada's lead, but could not get closer in a 77 - 63 loss at Lawlor Events Center.
The game marked the season opener for both teams. This also begins a stretch that will see Sacramento State play seven of its first eight games on the road.
After Nevada jumped out to its largest lead of the night at 17 points (61-44) with 9:42 to play, Sacramento State immediately responded with a 12-0 run to trim the deficit to five points (61-56) with seven minutes remaining. Sophomore Duncan Powell sparked the run with seven points as part of his 11-point second half.
The two teams would exchange buckets until a Powell turnaround jumper drew Sacramento State within, 67-61, at the 4:32 mark. However, Nevada would close the final 3:27 on a 10-2 run to provide the final outcome.
