Despite a late surge, David Patrick’s Sacramento State could not quite get over the hump in a 70 - 64 loss to Weber State in the Big Sky Conference Tournament Quarterfinals at Idaho Central Arena.
Sacramento State received a first-round bye at the Big Sky Tournament for the first time since joining the league in 1996. Patrick and his staff have laid the foundation, as the 14 victories are the most by a first-year head coach in Sacramento State's Div. I era (1991-pres.). It's also the third-best mark for a first-year head coach in program history (1948-pres.), trailing only Dr. Hal Wolf (18 wins in 1952-53) and Joseph Anders (22 in 1987-88).
Weber State never trailed, and withstood a late Sacramento State rally, to advance to the Semi-Final. Sacramento State used a 7-0 run to slice a 12-point deficit to 66-61 with just under 50 seconds to play. However, Weber State converted each of their final four free throw attempts spanning the last 25 seconds to put the game away.
