Weber State used a 12-6 run over the final 3:27 to beat David Patrick’s Sacramento State, 52-49, on Thursday evening at the Nest.
In a game that featured nine ties and neither team leading by more than eight points, Sacramento State took a three-point lead (43-40) at the 3:43 mark after Austin Patterson buried a 3-pointer. However, Weber State's Dillon Jones responded with six straight points to give them a 46-43 lead with 1:40 remaining.
Weber State would eventually push that lead to four points with 11 seconds left, but Sacramento State’s Zach Chappell hit a long 3-pointer at the five-second mark to slice the Hornet deficit to 50-49. After Weber State's Zahir Porter hit a pair of free throws with four seconds remaining, Sacramento State had one last chance to tie. Chappell took the inbounds pass and raced up the floor, before his off-balance contested 3-ball drew iron and missed at the buzzer.
