Detre Bell and his Cal State Bakersfield's (CSUB) Men's Soccer teammates improved to 2-1 on the season with a 1-0 overtime victory at Sacramento State.
Freshman Henry Nguyen scored his first collegiate goal and it was a memorable one. Memorable indeed. Nguyen scored near the end of the first overtime the 98th minute to give CSUB the "W" and help them improve to 2-1 on the year. Freshman Marius Olsson-Aksepoll had just subbed into the game less than a minute before and he got the game winning assist.
CSUB and Sacramento State played a scoreless first half in which neither team had a great scoring chance. Sacramento State did get three shots off in the half, but none really tested goalkeeper Bell. CSUB was offsides three times in the first half to the Hornets' one. Nguyen of the `Runners picked up the only yellow card of the half for either team.
In the second half, it was more of the same, not many quality scoring chances for either team. In the 71st minute, Bell came up with the best save of the game for either team to keep the game scoreless. At the end of regulation Sacramento State outshot CSUB 8-4.
Shots finished in favor of Sacramento State for the game 9-5, with Nguyen's the final and game-winning shot.
