Jonte Smith’s Cheltenham Town chairman Andy Wilcox is part of a group chat with his counterparts from all other clubs in Leagues One and Two.
He says the overriding consensus is that the 2019/20 season should be played to a finish, however long it takes.
The chat was instigated by Mansfield Town owner John Radford and includes representatives from the 48 clubs that make up the lower half of the Football League.
“It’s been great for keeping everyone in the loop, sharing ideas and sticking together,” Wilcox said.
“We have one person from each club and the vast majority want the season to finish so we will be pushing that way.
“The chat means everyone is on side, nobody feels isolated and nearly 50 voices is better than one as we face the challenges ahead.”
Wilcox confirmed Cheltenham’s staff and players have been paid in full for the month of March, but discussions are ongoing over the furlough option, with more news expected by the end of this week.
The Robins’ board members are now convening every week, rather than the usual monthly meetings, using Zoom.
Wilcox has also kept in regular contact with manager Michael Duff and director of football Micky Moore.
Cheltenham’s final match before the suspension was the 0-0 draw at home to Port Vale on March 7.
Duff's side have 10 matches left to play, five of which are at home, and they are well-positioned to challenge for promotion to League One, where they last competed in 2008/09.
“Football in the lower leagues is becoming an almost impossible task, just to keep going,” Wilcox said.
