Errin Cann began training in Campbell, California with Coaches Stephanie Lim and Nathan Andrus-Hughes of Rouge Wushu and Athletics.
Cann has been training hard to represent Bermuda and the Bermuda Sanshou Association in the 14th Pan American Wushu Championships from August 28th to September 2nd.
When she arrived she hit the ground running and has been training twice a day for roughly 2 hours per session. By the fourth day, she had completed learning her new Jianshu (Straight Sword) Group B (Intermediate Level) form which she will be competing in for the first time. Now that she has completed it she is working on perfecting the movements and getting it performance ready.
She will also be participating in Chanquan (Open Hand) Group B for the first time as well. She has been practicing this form for the last year but was having some issues with the more technical things involved. Over the last few sessions, she has seen remarkable growth in her abilities and understanding of how to move her body to get better results.
This will be Cann’s 5th year in Contemporary Wushu and her 4th international competition. Cann’s previous Group C (Beginner Level) accolades include:
2021 Phoenix Wushu Nationals in Phoenix, Arizona - 1st in Straight Sword, 2nd in Open Hand 2022 13th Pan American Wushu Championships in Brazilia, Brazil - 2nd in Straight Sword, 8th in Open Hand 2023 Pan Am Kung Fu Championships in Markham, Canada - 3rd in Straight Sword, 2nd in Open Hand She is the first Bermudian to Medal in Contemporary Wushu at a Pan American Wushu Championship, and we are hoping for many more to come.
Cann said, “Thank you again for all your help thus far, these accomplishments wouldn't be possible without the support of family, friends, and the community of Bermuda. That being said there are still many more weeks and expenses to come. If anyone would still be willing to assist financially, please send donations to Jecoa Burrows HSBC 002-058741-012 or Jecoa Burrows Butterfield 20-050-060-665328-210.”
