Bermuda Natwest Island Games 2017 Day 2

Seven Medals were won on Day 2 for Bermuda as the NatWest Island Games continued in Gotland.

ARCHERY
Bernard Wade III finished 5th competing in the Single WA 1440 Men's Recurve with a score of 1097, while Robert O’Connor finished 28th with 910 points.

Tiffany Slatton finished 16th competing in the Single WA 1440 Women's Recurve, she recorded a score of 883.

The combined scores saw the Bermuda Team finish 8th in the Single WA 1440 Recurve Team event with 2890 points.

ATHLETICS

Taahira Butterfield advanced to the Final of the Women’s 100m after she won Semi-Final Heat 1 with a time of 12.61, Butterfield would then win the Silver Medal in Final with a time of 12.58.

BADMINTON

Playing in the 11th / 12th Playoff match Bermuda went down to Shetland Islands 3-2, Bermuda picked up a win in the Men's Doubles as Mark Haugen and Danial Hughes defeated Lewis Fraser and Rory Irvine 21-17, 21-14, the other win came during the Mixed Doubles as Danial Hughes and Rowena Cespedes defeated Liam Flaws and Aimee Keith 21-12, 21-16.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL

Ian Bucci and Kazimierz Orlowski went down in straight games 21-5, 21-14 to Finn Alden-Joyce and Svante Örtbrandt from Gotland, they then went down 21-7, 21-16 to Helar Jalg Siim Põlluäär from Saarland.

CYCLING

During the Women's Individual Time Trial, Alyssa Rowse finished 14th with a time of 1:01:06.02, one spot back was Nicole Mitchell who was clocked at 1:01:30.05, Zoenique Williams clocked a time of 1:03:03.21 to finish 19th and Gabriella Arnold finished 28th with a time of 1:04:50.16, as a team the Ladies finished 7th.

The Men’s team finished 5th after the Men's Individual Time Trial, Kaden Hopkins finished 8th with a time of 50:33.96, Matthew Oliviera was 13th after recording a time of 51:09.49, finishing 17th was Dominique Mayho who was clocked at 51:28.65 and Che'quan Richardson finished 47th with a time of 58:10.49.

GYMNASTICS

During the Men’s SET Individual Floor, Max Blakeney finished 25th with a score of 4.600, during the Women’s SET Individual Floor, Bermuda picked up a Bronze Medal when Chantae Wilson finished 3rd with a score of 12.400. Anna Francoeur finished 11th with a score of 11.550 and finishing 16th was Gianna Webbe with a score of 11.300.

Bermuda captured 2 Silver Medals competing in the Women’s SET Individual Vault, both Francoeur and Webbe finished with a score of 11.525.

Taj Lowery finished 4th competing in the Men’s SET Individual High Bar with a score of 9.050.

Wilson picked up her second Medal of the day when she captured the Silver Medal competing in the Women’s SET Individual Beam with a score of 12.800.

During the Team Floor & Vault Women's the Bermuda team of Francoeur, Webbe and Wilson finished second picking up a Silver Medal with a score of 69.950.

TENNIS

Bermuda went down in their Semi-Final match 2-1 to Jersey, Gavin Manders went down in straight sets 6-1, 7-5 to Stuart Parker in the Men’s Singles, Sam Butler would draw Bermuda level playing in the number two Men’s Singles spot defeating Michael Watkins 6-4, 5-7, 1-0. In the Doubles Manders and David Thomas fell 7-5, 6-3 to Parker and Watkins, Bermuda would win the Bronze Medal.

In the Men’s Doubles, Javon Whitter and Butler defeated Luca Rayment-Gomez and Santiago Rayment-Gomez from Ynys Môn in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.

VOLLEYBALL

Bermuda’s Women’s Volleyball team defeated Gibraltar in straight games 29-27, 25-15, 25-10, while the Men’s team needed four games to defeat Cayman Islands 25-16, 25-22, 19-25, 25-22.
