The Minister of Labour, Community Affairs and Sports, Lovitta Foggo visited the National Sports Center (NSC) Track recently to get an update on the 2020 Carifta Games preparations.

The public will be aware that Bermuda is hosting the 49th Edition of the Carifta Games from April 10th – 13th, 2020.

Currently the National Sports Center is undergoing a series of upgrades and refurbishments in advance of the games. This includes resurfacing the main track and a revamping of the grand stand areas.

During her visit to the NSC, Minister Foggo was joined by Bermuda National Athletics Association (BNAA) President Donna Raynor and some 2020 Carifta Games qualifying Bermudian athletes, Eleanor Richmond (Javelin), Tommy Marshall (3000 meters), Kahzi Sealey (3000 / 1500 meters) and Ryan Outerbridge (5000 meters).

Minister Foggo said she was pleased with the Games’ preparation and progress noting, “We are so excited to be hosting this year’s Carifta Games. I understand that we have around 27 countries set to compete.

“The track preparations are progressing well and the Government of Bermuda stands proudly behind the BNAA and the work they are doing to ready the National Sports Center and our athletes.

“Traditionally Bermuda has always done well during the Carifta Games and we expect to see some great results from our young people. It’s important that we show our support and pride for our young athletes as they prepare to take the international Carifta stage. I am asking all of Bermuda to mark the dates on their calendars - April 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th – so that they can come out and fill the stands and cheer on our young talented Bermudian athletes.”

Mrs. Raynor added, “The BNAA are really excited to be having a resurfaced track for the Carifta Games. There is no doubt there will be some spectacular performances on this new surface. All of the Caribbean islands are excited to compete here and are looking forward to the Games.”
