Bermuda National Athletics Association President Donna Raynor has written that Bermuda will be sending a team to the NACAC Age Under 13 (11&12) & Under 15 (13&14) Championships which will be held in El Salvador Friday July 26th & Saturday July 27th.

This competition is similar to a Pentathlon and Decathlon with the athletes gaining points for each event and the athlete with the most points winning the event.

The athletes in the Under 13 Age Group Girls compete in 60m, High Jump, Ball Throw, Long Jump and 800m. The Under 13 Boys compete in 60m, High Jump, Ball Throw, Long Jump and 1000m.

The Under 15 Age Group Girls compete in 80m, Long Jump, Shot Put, 60m Hurdles, Ball Throw, 1000m. The Under 15 Boys compete in 80m, Long Jump, Shot Put, 80m hurdles, Ball throw, 1200m.

We have been having competition for several athletes in this Age Group for the past several months accumulating points and the athletes that completed the series with the most points were selected for the team. For all of these athletes they have been training very hard in all events but specifically with the Hurdles as this will be their first International competition in the event.

Raynor specified, “We are confident that these athletes will be competitive in this event. Bermuda has placed well over the past several years and have had persons like Jordan Bascome, Zekiah Lewis, Anaya West, Za'Kayza Parsons who placed in the top 3 in their Age Group.”

This event is used in the region to identify athletes who could end up competing in the multi-events or to figure out what is an athletes best event to begin preparation for Carifta and of course on to the Olympics.

The Team traveling to El Salvador leaving Bermuda July 25th returning July 28th.
