Jessica Lewis’ preparation for the upcoming Para-Pan American Games began in earnest as she took to the Track for the Snowbird Classic Track and Field Meet in Daytona.

Lewis told www.islandstats.com, “It poured on race day so my times weren’t the greatest.”

Lewis is presently attending the annual intense two week Athletics Canada training program with her team in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Lewis would win the T53 Women’s 100m Race clocking a time of 17.64.

“We were lucky to get the 100m race done before the rain started so I was able to get a race in with my new hard gloves before I had to switch back to my soft gloves to get more grip in the rain,” continued Lewis.

Lewis would finish second competing in the T53 Women’s 400m race crossing the line in a time of 1:04.44, with Ilana Dupont clocking a winning time of 1:04.44.

Clocking a time of 34.19 would see Lewis win the T53 Women’s 200m race.

Lewis went on to say, “It was definitely great practice to race in a rainy condition though. I am feeling extremely strong and powerful in my new chair and with the new gloves.”

“My start in the 100m with the gloves was good so I’m happy about that,” continued Lewis.

Lewis concluded, “Just will be working a bit more on the first few strokes getting faster but I believe that will come as I get use to the gloves more and more. I’m hitting some great speeds during the camp and am looking forward to the rest of it.”
