Bermuda Olympian Tyrone Smith for a second time found himself a little too close for comfort, when a person decided to commit an act of terrorism.
It was not that long ago that Smith was in Monaco, when an act of terrorism happened in the street, on Sunday night that all came flooding back in Las Vegas when he was on lockdown at the Luxor Hotel which is across the street from the Mandalay Bay Hotel where a lone gunman killed 59 people and wounded more than 500 other.
Smith recounts the ordeal saying, “They made an announcement that the hotel was in lockdown, but when they made the second announcement I started checking social media and I instantly saw one of the videos of the carnage that had gone viral. I started to share it with my girlfriend and people around us.
“The Luxor staff wasn’t giving us details as to why we were being asked to stay there. When they finally told us, everyone inside had already found out through social media,” continued Smith.
Smith concluded, “I was in Spain when the terrorist decided to ram his car into the path of innocent people, and now this, the only way to let these people who are committing that acts of violence that they can’t stop the world is to continue living.”
