Bermuda Team for SSL Gold Cup Final Announced

IslandStats.com
Bermuda sailors will compete in the SSL Gold Cup Final in November.

The SSL GOLD CUP, the 1st “FOOTBALL WORLD CUP” in sailing will be held at the stunning Island of Gran Canaria from the 10th of November until the 3rd of December 2023 in collaboration with the Real Federacion Canaria de Vela.

SSL Team Bermuda will compete against some of the world’s best sailors from 40 nations onboard the SSL 47, a one-design monohull.

Bermuda’s multiple times national champion Rockal Evans will Captain SSL Team Bermuda.

Evans says, “It comes with great pleasure to announce that Bermuda has been offered a wildcard entry to the SSL Gold Cup Final. This is a testament to the dedication and commitment of the team over the past year after narrowly missing out on a place in the qualification series in May 2022”.

Team selection was based on SSL and Captain’s Pick criteria including the sailor’s commitment to training and performance. The Team are Rockal Evans, Dale Brangman, Ruairi Brown, Peter Dill, Josh Greenslade, Somers Kempe, Aran McKittrick, Emily Nagel, Adriana Penruddocke, Thomas Penruddocke, and Jade Smith.

Evans believes “This event will grow sailing in emerging nations. SSL Team Bermuda, a non-profit organization, aims to introduce young sailors from across Bermuda into keelboat racing by giving them the opportunity to gain experience and train alongside more experienced sailors”.
