ZEIKO LEWIS

Zeiko Lewis watched his New York Red Bulls II teammates defeated Toronto FC II at BMO Field by a 2-1 scoreline. The win pushes NYRB II’s unbeaten streak to six games and leapfrogs Orlando City B to sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

TFC II opened the scoring in the 35th minute with Jay Chapman burying his attempt past Evan Louro.

Eight minutes later, Florian Valot drew a penalty after being dragged down in the TFC II box. Stefano Bonomo stepped up to the spot and buried his attempt for his fifth goal of the season.

Just before halftime Vincent Bezecourt drew NYRB II’s second penalty kick in three minutes after being cut down in the box. Bonomo stepped right up and completed his brace knocking home his attempt to the exact same corner he scored his first in to give New York the 2-1 lead.

Douglas Martinez came inches from adding an insurance goal in the 85th minute but his header hit off the crossbar and Valot’s follow up was kept out by Angelo Cavaluzzo.

The road win was NYRB II’s second of the season and remained undefeated all-time against TFC II.

JONTE SMITH

Jonte Smith who came off the bench in the 83rd minute and his Lewes teammates extended their unbeaten start to the Bostik League South season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Hythe in testing conditions at The Dripping Pan, writes Stuart Fuller.

It was Ronnie Conlon who provided the magic in the 24th minute and opened the scoring when he cut in from the left-hand side and curled a low cross into the danger area. Jamie Brotherton threw himself at the ball which fooled Godman in the Hythe goal and the nestled in the far corner.

Lewes coach Darren Freeman threw on Smith, replacing Jamie Brotherton to a standing ovation but once again the visitors looked the more dangerous.
