Bermudian football legend Shaun Goater has applied for the manager’s job at Chester FC, according to the Chester Chronicle.

In the article which states, “Former Bermuda international wants to break into management following coaching spells at Doncaster Rovers and St Johnstone. Manchester City legend Shaun Goater has applied for the manager’s job at Chester FC, The Chronicle can reveal.

“Although the club will not confirm details of applicants on the ground of confidentiality, a source close to the Bermuda native confirmed he has submitted his CV.

“Goater, made more than 500 Football League appearances in a 17-year career that began with Manchester United and took in Rotherham United, Notts County, Bristol City, Reading, Coventry City and Southend United.

“He holds the UEFA B License coaching qualification and in recent seasons he has worked as a forwards coach at Doncaster Rovers and St Johnstone.”

It was only a few years ago Goater was coaching at his childhood club North Village Rams in the Bermuda Football Association’s Premier Division.

He became a cult hero during five years at Maine Road, scoring 103 goals in 212 appearances and his role in the club's return to the Premier League from the old Second Division coined the terrace chant 'Feed The Goat'.

Goater was named assistant manager at Evo-Stik League side New Mills in August under Andy Fearn, who had been part of Steve Burr's back-room team at Chester, but left when Fearn departed the following month.
