DeRosa Smashes National Record Three Times at NSC

IslandStats.com
Tiara DeRosa produced a masterclass in the throwing circle at the National Sports Centre, rewriting the record books three times in a single afternoon as Bermuda’s elite athletes completed their final preparations for the Carifta Games.

Despite challenging, blustery conditions at the island’s premier athletics venue, DeRosa proved to be in a league of her own. Having already secured her place for the 2026 Commonwealth Games last June with a toss of 50.07m, the powerhouse thrower demonstrated that she is finding peak form at precisely the right moment.

Her opening effort in the Women's Discus Throw Open immediately set the tone, as she bettered her own national mark with a throw of 50.64m. After a 45.95m second attempt, DeRosa found another gear in the third round. Launching the discus to a staggering 51.03m—equivalent to 167 feet 05 inches—she established a new gold standard for the region and further cemented her status as one of the top-ranked throwers in the Caribbean. Her final attempt of the day, while not surpassing her new peak, still landed further than the 50.21m benchmark she had held only 24 hours prior.

On the track, the next generation of Bermudian sprinters also showcased their potential ahead of the regional championships. Jadon Lightbourne was the standout performer in the Boys Under 14 200 Meter Dash, clocking an impressive 23.50 seconds to distance himself from Jemani Scott, who followed in 25.65.

The Under 17 Girls' 100 Meter Dash provided further encouragement for the Bermuda National Athletics Association coaching staff. Myami York claimed a commanding victory, crossing the line in 12.80 seconds. Ayara Simmons secured the runner-up spot with a time of 14.25, ensuring the squad heads to the Carifta Games with significant momentum across both the field and track disciplines.
