Bermudian duo Amaris Munya and Arima Turner played pivotal roles as the Montverde Academy girls' track and field team delivered an outstanding performance to secure the team title at the Dr. Phillips Invitational. Competing against a formidable field of twenty-eight schools at West Orange High School, the Academy showcased their collective depth and individual brilliance to emerge as the top-ranked program of the meet.
The foundation of the team’s success was built on a clinical victory in the four by eight hundred meter relay. Munya joined forces with teammates Lyla McMillen, Alafair Scelfo, and Angelica Wolfe to dismantle the opposition, combining for a winning time of nine minutes and forty-eight point sixty-three seconds. The victory provided an early momentum shift for Montverde, setting a high standard that the rest of the squad would maintain throughout the day’s events.
Individual honors followed in the sprint divisions, where Turner secured a prestigious podium finish in the Women’s one hundred meter dash. In a high-speed encounter defined by fine margins, she stopped the clock at twelve point twenty-nine seconds to claim third place. Her performance was mirrored by a resilient effort from Munya in the Women’s four hundred meter dash, where she crossed the line in a time of one minute and zero point thirteen seconds to earn a fourth-place finish and contribute vital points to the overall team standings.
