Pacers Finish in Maryland & BNAA Host Meet at the Stadium

IslandStats.com
The Bermuda Pacers Track Club have concluded a successful campaign at the PVA 14 & Under National Age-Group Invitational in Landover, Maryland, with a series of gutsy performances on the final day of competition. Returning to the high-performance track at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex, the Bermudian youngsters navigated deep fields to secure several top-ten finishes against elite North American opposition.

Skye Furbert continued her standout form in the 9–10 Division, following up her earlier Gold in the Long Jump with a display of pure speed on the track. In the Girls 60m Preliminaries, Furbert produced a sharp time of 9.12 seconds to finish fourth and comfortably book her place in the final. Teammate Giselle Reid-Rubaine narrowly missed out on the showpiece race, clocking a solid 9.36 seconds to finish ninth overall. In the subsequent final, Furbert fought hard against a blistering pace to finish fifth with a time of 9.27 seconds, cementing her status as one of the most versatile athletes in her age group.

The middle-distance events provided further cause for celebration, particularly in the 13–14 Division. Mylah Desilva produced a tactical masterclass in the 400m Preliminaries, qualifying for the final with an eleventh-place finish in a time of 1:03.96. Stepping back onto the track for the final, Desilva found another gear to shave a full second off her qualifying mark. She crossed the line in eighth place with a time of 1:02.97, a performance that demonstrated both her endurance and competitive spirit.

In the 9–10 Division 400m, Diamond Morris and Giselle Reid-Rubaine were separated by less than a second in a crowded field. Morris finished 14th with a time of 1:16.12, while Reid-Rubaine followed closely in 16th with a time of 1:16.69. Both runners acquitted themselves well in an event notorious for its high intensity and tactical complexity at the junior level.

The older age categories saw Amaya Davis and Ava St Luce battle through a massive entry list in the Girls 60m preliminaries. Davis, who had already performed strongly in the long jump, finished 24th with a time of 8.57 seconds. St Luce also delivered a competitive effort, stopping the clock in 8.72 seconds to take 34th place. While they missed out on the final rounds, the experience of competing in such a high-calibre international environment will serve as a vital foundation for their summer track schedules.

As the Bermuda Pacers prepare to depart Maryland, they do so with a collection of medals and personal bests that highlight the continued strength of the island's youth athletics programme. The focus now shifts back to domestic shores, where many of these athletes will be the ones to watch as the local season intensifies.

Meanwhile the Bermuda National Athletics Association hosted another Carifta Games Qualifier at the Flora Duffy South Field Stadium at the National Sports Center.

Amara Samuels who has already met the Under 17 Girls Qualifying standards has done it again in two events, during the Women’s 100 Meter Dash, Samuels clocked 12.10 with the Qualifying Standard set at 12.35.

Samuels was at it again this time in the Women’s 200 Meter Dash where she clocked 24.96 with the Qualifying standard set at 25.25.
