AFC Bournemouth Bermudian Star Thompson Retained

IslandStats.com
AFC Bournemouth Women have announced a significant boost to their squad for the upcoming 2025/26 season, confirming that 13 key players from their double-winning campaign, including Bermudian international Kenni Thompson, have agreed fresh terms with the club.

Thompson was an integral part of the Cherries' memorable 2024/25 season, which saw them clinch both the FA Women’s National League Division One South West title and the National Plate competition. Her contributions, which included scoring in the Plate Final against Cheltenham Town, were vital as the club achieved promotion from the fourth tier of English women's football.

This promotion means AFC Bournemouth will compete in the National League Southern Premier Division for the first time in their history next season, marking a new era for the club. This division is part of the third tier of the English women's football pyramid, a significant step up in competition.

Manager Steve Cuss expressed his delight at the retained list: “We’re really pleased that the 13 players have agreed to be with us again for next season. They were all a big part of the promotion-winning squad and I am delighted they are going to be with us for the season ahead."

Cuss acknowledged the challenge ahead but highlighted the team's excitement: “We are going into a new league, a new era, some of those players have played at that level before but there’s a majority who haven’t, so I think there’s a real excitement from the group as we move forward."

For Thompson, who signed with the club in February 2025, her continued presence provides valuable experience and flair as the Cherries aim to carry their winning momentum into the higher division. "These players have made a legacy from being the title-winning team from last season and hopefully we can carry on the momentum and get off to a good start,” Cuss added.

The announcement signifies a strong foundation as AFC Bournemouth Women prepare for their highest-ever league campaign.
