A truly remarkable era in Bermudian sport has drawn to a close, as North Village Community Club (NVCC) announces the stepping down of its long-serving President, Shervin Dill, after an extraordinary 60 years of dedicated service.
Dill's tenure at NVCC is one of unparalleled commitment, spanning every level of leadership within the club. His journey began as a player in 1965 under the tutelage of coach Doc Dowling, before he advanced through pivotal roles as Chairman of Sports and Vice President. He ultimately assumed the top leadership position, serving as President since the year 2000 – a remarkable 25-year tenure in the top role. During this period, Dill played a pivotal role in transforming NVCC into one of Bermuda’s most successful and respected community clubs.
Reflecting on his six decades of service, Dill expressed profound gratitude to the countless board members, dedicated volunteers, talented players, and loyal supporters who shared in his vision of elevating NVCC to become the island’s premier community club.
“It has been the honour of my life to serve this club,” Dill said in a heartfelt statement. “Together, we have built a legacy defined not only by championships, but by unity, resilience, and unwavering community spirit.”
Under his visionary leadership, NVCC achieved historic success both on and off the field. This includes:
Youth Football Excellence: A testament to the club's grassroots development, achieving titles such as U-11 Kappa Champions, U-13 Knockout Champions, U-15 Leonard Holder Champions, U-18 Knockout Champions, and U-23 League Champions.
Dominance in Senior Football: The NVCC Premier Team secured both the Premier League Title and the FA Cup, with key individual accolades going to Coach of the Year Calvin “Patches” Dill, MVP Jonte Smith, and Goalkeeper of the Year Deitre Bell. The Masters Team also captured their respective League title. Under Dill's direct leadership, the senior team alone has secured an astonishing 33 of its 57 total titles.
Netball Milestone: NVCC proudly holds the distinction of being the only netball team continuously active since the sport's debut in Bermuda in 1972, with sustained success across both youth and senior divisions.
Major Infrastructure Investment: A significant achievement off the field was the completion of a state-of-the-art lighting system, a five-year project valued at $1 million. This investment has strategically positioned the club for evening events and extended facility use. In a parting gesture, Mr. Dill extended his gratitude to the Government of Bermuda for their consistent support and collaboration throughout the years.
Shervin Dill’s leadership has left a deep and enduring impact, solidifying NVCC’s legacy as far more than just a sports organization; it stands as a thriving community pillar. “Our success is not measured solely by trophies, but by the lives we’ve touched,” Dill reaffirmed. “Though I step away from the presidency, my heart will always belong to North Village.”
